MY JOURNEY

It wasn't that long ago, I was overweight, over fifty and beginning to feel it was pretty much OVER!  Let’s face it – overweight is not exactly accurate.  I weighed 230 with a BMI of 31+.  I was, by definition, obese.  I didn’t sleep well and I was having difficulty with mobility.  I hated doing anything on my knees.  I was miserable.

One Labor Day weekend, I decided to give the “Flat Belly Diet” a try (my wife had read about it in Prevention Magazine).   It basically involved eating healthy and eating smart.  In other words, be aware of what and how much you were putting into your mouth at mealtime.  I started keeping track and following the diet instructions.

Surprisingly, the weight began coming off (unlike all the other times I tried and failed to lose).  However – one very important factor was different.  I had been doing Chinese Martial Arts for a while.  Every morning, I’d get up early, about 4:00 AM and do 30 minutes of Qigong, Chinese energy and breathing exercise.  It literally changed everything.  I had a different energy and focus.  I was able to be much more mindful about my eating choices.  Qigong plus the diet really worked.

As the weight came off, my ability and desire to be more active increased.  I began to explore a variety of exercise options and found what I feel is a perfect blend that offers results and is also fun to do.  I became passionate to share what I had experienced, so I trained, studied and obtained instructor certifications.

I believe being overweight (or even obese), and over fifty (or over 20, 30 or 40 for that matter) does not have to mean it’s over.  If you’d like to move better and feel better – let’s talk. It can be a beautiful journey.
